In the early hours of Tuesday morning Ducati number one rider Pecco Bagnaia crashed his car whilst drunk.
Bagnaia had been out partying with the VR46 academy* on the sleepy, tranquil Spanish island of Ibiza which is not at all known for its drunken, moronic antics. At 3am he attempted to drive his Citroen car back to his hotel and crashed into a ditch whilst trying to navigate a shaking roundabout. Thankfully no one else was involved in the incident.
When the Spanish police turned up to the crash, after a quick siesta mid journey, they found the Ducati rider to be three times over the legal limit. Eyewitnesses also state that Pecco was mumbling something about thinking the car behind him being driven by Enea Bastianini but that’s not why he crashed.
Pecco released a statement the following day claiming he was celebrating his Dutch GP victory in the disco with a toast. And that’s why he was drunk. The Italian also said that he’s ‘practically a non-drinker’ so a little amount of alcohol gets him drunk very quickly – also known as a ‘cheap date’ in the UK.
Bagnaia will almost certainly be banned from driving but do his careless and dangerous actions mean he should lose his job on the factory bike? So far Ducati have yet to release a statement in regard to the incident but have the added bonus of having 87 spare riders should they give Bagnaia the boot.
