Spain gave us plenty to think about…and plenty we don’t want to think about again. Here’s Arjen with a recap and a prediction for the next race in Germany…
The Sausagering has more twists than an East-German woman’s armpit hair – and is probably only half the length. It’s a favourite with many riders as despite being in Germany it’s a natural, undulating circuit that’s not yet been butchered by local the bollard Hermann Tilke.
Marc Marquez has won the last ten races he’s competed in here so is surely the favourite? Current form of the Spaniard may sway you against it.
Then we have the usual 2021 suspects – the Ducati riders and Quartarararo. Miller, Bagnaia and Zarco have all been brilliant and despite this not being a power circuit who’s to say it won’t suit the very much improved Ducati?
Finally let’s not overlook Morbidelli. Poor Franco’s stuck on an old heap of a Yamaha that Takahiro Sumi found in his zen-shed during lockdown. The Italian also struggles to see during the race due to a build-up of frustration tears…made infinitely worse knowing that his mentor, hero and teammate is hogging exactly what he wants. Last time out in Spain even the Moto2 riders were laughing at Morbidelli’s top speed – but hopefully this twisty track will play into the hands of his Yamaha that’s still a fine handling machine.
So, who do you think will win the German GP?
So how did you do last time?
Your selected winner: Johann Zarco (25%)
Coming second in a war is a pretty good result for the French. Coming second in a MotoGP race is a fantastic result…or it would have been until Fabio Quartarararo started making winning a thing.
Zarco keeps coming second – four silver medals in the first seven races. This is great for his championship hopes but every rider secretly knows that if you win a championship but don’t win a race then it doesn’t really count.
(It also doesn’t really count if the best rider is injured)
Actual winner: Miguel Oliveira (4%)
Only 4% of you saw this coming…and there’s a good chance some of these votes were due to clicking on the wrong rider (that’s the only way we can understand how Alex Marquez keeps getting votes).
Although KTM looked to have improved and Miguel has matured into a fine rider the Quartarararo and Ducati threat just looked far stronger. So we were wrong again…
Special mention: I’d rather be better at pulling wheelies than be a better person (18%)
Pulling sweet wheelies is the ultimate aim of every normal person. If it’s not then they’re not normal.
Meanwhile anyone can be a good person. So I’ve heard.
