Ducati duo Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia are firmly in the title picture in 2025. The same cannot be said for Pedro Acosta after the first three races.
The factory Ducati team have won every race thus far in 2025, with Marquez winning all but one. He was on course to win the Grand Prix of the Americas before he crashed on lap nine.
Teammate Bagnaia inherited the win from the Spaniard’s mistake, putting him 12 points behind championship leader Alex Marquez heading into Qatar. Marc Marquez was not the only Spaniard to crash as Acosta, Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer also retired.

Acosta’s accident was his second of the season already. The 20-year-old has struggled since his move to the factory KTM team from Tech3.
Acosta does not seem to care about crashing as he becomes increasingly frustrated at KTM. The manufacturer’s financial crisis and issues with vibrations on the RC16 have created an infuriating situation for the Spaniard.
He is already 71 points behind leader Alex Marquez in the standings and currently stands no chance of fighting with Ducati unless drastic improvements are made.

Pedro Acosta does not think Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia are MotoGP’s ‘dream team’
Acosta’s dismal start to the 2025 season with KTM is a sharp contrast to his electric start at Tech3 last season. By this point in 2024, the 20-year-old had already been on the podium twice.
After finishing third in Portugal and second in Austin, Acosta had grabbed 56 points after the opening three rounds. The MotoGP rookie was ahead of both Marc Marquez and Bagnaia, who had one retirement each.
Herve Poncharal labelled Acosta an ‘alien’ for his performance last season. Despite suffering the most crashes in 2024, the Spaniard consistently fought for top positions – he is struggling to do that at KTM in 2025.
Acosta is seemingly out of the title picture following two non-points finishes in Buriram and Austin. Marquez and Bagnaia are firm favourites for the championship, but the KTM rider is not crowning ‘the king’ just yet.
Speaking with Speedweek, Acosta does not see the Ducati duo as the ‘dream team’ as he does not think a team can have two number one riders:”We shouldn’t crown the king just yet; a season is a long one,” he said.
“Many people talk about them being a dream team. But in real life, there is no such thing as a dream team; you can’t have two number ones in the same box.

Pedro Acosta’s future at KTM is uncertain – but will he join Ducati?
Acosta’s start to the 2025 season has prompted speculation that he could leave KTM before his contract expires. The 20-year-old will certainly be one of the hottest talents on the market if he becomes available.
Acosta has a contract until 2026 at KTM but rumours are suggesting he could find a way out of his deal. Several teams in the paddock are already expressing their interest.
Honda have been linked with the Spaniard as they look to rebuild back to the front. VR46 are ready to pounce for Acosta, with Valentino Rossi being a huge admirer of the 20-year-old.
Despite the interest, journalist Manuel Pecino says Acosta will ‘never’ join Ducati in their current state. This is because Marc Marquez ‘reigns supreme’ at the manufacturer, with his fellow compatriot seemingly doubting he can beat him on equal machinery.
